Every year in June CVSA conducts a Roadcheck event, where thousands of commercial motor vehicles and professional drivers will be inspected. This year, Roadcheck 2019 will take place June 4-6. CDL Legal is here to make sure you are prepared and protected!

Here are some stats from the 2018 Roadcheck event (Source: JJ Keller):

  • 67,603 roadside inspections were conducted
  • Of the Level I inspections conducted, 21.6% were placed out of service
  • Driver out-of-service rate was 3.9% of all vehicle inspections conducted
  • 43.7% of all driver out-of-service conditions were for hours of service

This year steering and suspension systems will be the focus of Roadcheck, but will not be limited to those systems. Drivers need to make sure they conduct a thorough pre-trip inspection and even mid-trip inspection of all truck components.  Click HERE for a comprehensive pre-trip inspection checklist

In addition to the truck inspection, drivers need to be prepared to be inspected themselves. Here are items that CVSA will be looking for:

  • Drivers License/CDL
  • Medical Examiners Certificate
  • Record of Duty Status
  • Daily Vehicle Inspection Report
  • Periodic Inspection Reports
  • Shipping Papers
  • Vehicle Inspection Certificate
  • Skill Performance Evaluation Certificate
  • Inspectors also will check drivers for seat belt usage, sickness, fatigue, and apparent alcohol and/or drug impairment
